PayPal Veteran Bill Harris Launches Free AI Financial Adviser, Evergreen.ai

Bill Harris has spent decades building financial technology companies. Now, the former PayPal and Intuit CEO is putting AI to work on a problem that remains stubbornly familiar: Many Americans need financial guidance but do not have a personal adviser.

The veteran PayPal CEO announced the launch on LinkedIn. His answer is Evergreen.ai, a financial advice platform that entered public beta in September 2026. The service combines conversational AI with financial planning software to answer questions about retirement, taxes, investments, real estate, equity compensation, and other money decisions. People who register during the beta can use it free through January 1, 2028.

Bill Harris Wants AI Financial Advice to Reach More People

LinkedIn / Harris brings plenty of fintech experience to the project. He previously served as CEO of PayPal and Intuit and later founded Personal Capital, which combined digital financial tools with human wealth management.

That company grew into a major player in the digital wealth business before Empower acquired it.

Evergreen.ai takes a different route by making automated financial guidance available without requiring users to meet a large investment minimum. Harris is targeting people who may have complicated money questions but cannot justify, afford, or access a traditional wealth management relationship.

The timing makes sense because consumers are already asking general AI chatbots about money. However, the problem is that a chatbot may know very little about someone's actual accounts, taxes, retirement plans, stock compensation, mortgage, or long-term goals. A confident answer can still be a poor answer when important financial details are missing.

Evergreen.ai tries to close that gap by building its responses around information supplied by the user. People can connect financial accounts or simply enter details themselves. Account linking is optional. But giving the system more information allows it to produce answers based on a fuller picture of the user's finances.

The platform covers far more than basic budgeting. Users can explore long-term retirement projections, cash flow, investment questions, tax strategies, charitable giving, estate considerations, real estate decisions, and equity compensation. The system can also model how one financial decision affects other parts of a user's plan.

The app also tackles more familiar financial questions. Someone considering retirement can examine how retiring at 62 instead of 65 could affect future finances. A prospective homeowner can compare buying with renting, while parents can consider education costs alongside retirement and other financial priorities.

Evergreen.ai Keeps the AI Away From the Financial Math

Dart / The most interesting part of Evergreen.ai may sit behind the chat window.

Harris and co-founder Bryan Godwin are not asking a large language model to invent financial calculations every time somebody asks a question. Instead, the company separates conversation from the mathematical work.

Evergreen.ai says its financial figures come from tested, rules-based calculations using current tax and financial information. The conversational AI handles the discussion, while deterministic software handles calculations where consistency matters. The same financial inputs should therefore produce the same underlying numbers.

Godwin describes the architecture as “giving each technology the job it handles best.” The language model can understand conversational questions and explain complicated topics in approachable language. Traditional software can perform the tax and financial calculations that require repeatable results rather than creative predictions.

Evergreen.ai is currently making price one of its biggest selling points. Anyone who registers during the public beta receives free access through January 1, 2028, and the company says no credit card is required. Human investment advice and investment management are separate services offered by Evergreen Wealth Advisors for a fee.
