John Travolta – Gained 100 Pounds & Spent 5 Hours Per Day On Makeup
John Travolta was not only subdued to a physical transformation, but he also had to “become a woman” for the role of Edna Turnblad in Hairspray. Not only did he have to dress up as a woman, but he also had to gain 100 pounds to become the plus size woman Edna is. He spent five hours a day at the makeup artist’s to become the spitting image of her, and prior to filming, he took dancing and singing lessons. However, Travolta gave it a thought over 14 months before accepting the role.
