Het pad dat John David Washington volgde onthulde aanvankelijk een verlangen om niet simpelweg in de schaduw van zijn beroemde vader, Denzel Washington, te staan. In plaats daarvan koos hij voor een carrière in professioneel voetbal, waarbij hij uitkwam voor de St. Louis Rams gedurende vier seizoenen.
