Margaret Julia “Marlo” Thomas oder besser bekannt als Marlo Thomas begann 1960 mit der Schauspielerei. In ihrer frühen Karriere im Jahr 1961 spielten Marlo und ihr Vater in derselben Episode für Dick Powells Zane Gray Theatre von CBS. Sie ist auch Produzentin, Sozialaktivistin und Autorin. Marlo bekam Anerkennung, als sie 1966 in einer Sitcom namens That Girl spielte, die bis 1971 dauerte, nachdem sie beschlossen hatte, nicht mehr in der Sitcom zu spielen, da sie nicht glaubte, dass dies eine gute Botschaft für das weibliche Publikum sein würde. Marlo hat zahlreiche Preise gewonnen, darunter 4 Emmys, einen Golden Globe, den George Foster Peabody Award und einen Preis für ihr Kinderbuch Free to Be … You and Me.
