John Spencer fue un actor estadounidense conocido por su papel como Leo McGarry, el jefe de gabinete de la Casa Blanca en la serie de drama político de la NBC El ala oeste de la Casa Blanca. Spencer se hizo con un Premio Emmy por su fabulosa interpretación. Además, apareció en títulos como Law & Order, Miami Vice y El negociador. Murió de un ataque al corazón el 16 de diciembre de 2005, apenas 4 días antes de cumplir 59 años. Para ese entonces, apenas se habían grabado dos episodios de la última temporada de El ala oeste de la Casa Blanca, su muerte obligó a la reescritura del guion de la serie.
