La cantante, compositora y productora estadounidense Teena Marie, fue apodada la “reina blanca del soul” debido a su característica voz perfecta para la música soul, esto llevó a muchos oyentes a pensar que se trataba de una mujer afroamericana. Pero no solo se dedicaba al soul, también producía R&B. Algunos de sus temas más famosos son Square Biz (1981), Lovergirl (1984) y Ooo La La La (1988). Murió por causas naturales el 26 de diciembre de 2010, a la edad de 54 años, aunque un mes antes había sufrido una crisis convulsiva tónico-clónica.
