Ein Flugzeugstart ist ein beeindruckendes Spektakel, aus der Ferne. Am Princess Juliana Airport auf St. Maarten kann er jedoch gefährlich werden, da an kaum einem anderen Flughafen der Welt die Menschen so nah an startende Maschinen herankommen. Die Landebahn beginnt direkt hinter dem Strand, sodass die Touristen oft nur wenige Meter von den Düsen entfernt sind.
Deshalb warnen große Schilder vor den gefährlichen Druckwellen, die beim Start entstehen. Der Luftstrahl der Triebwerke kann Menschen umwerfen oder sogar schwere Verletzungen verursachen. Trotz der deutlichen Warnungen ignorieren einige Besucher die Hinweise und riskieren ihre Sicherheit für das “perfekte” Video oder Foto, auch wenn die Schilder deutlich sind: Es besteht Lebensgefahr!
