Marcus Schenkenberg, geboren in de noordelijkste regionen van Europa uit Nederlandse ouders, was zichzelf nog aan het vinden in zijn twintiger jaren. Een onverwachte gebeurtenis veranderde zijn levensloop, toen hij tijdens het rolschaatsen op Venice Beach opviel bij fotograaf Barry King.
