Jean Alexander tuvo una carrera muy larga y exitosa. Ella fue conocida por sus papeles en series como Last of the Summer Wine y sobre todo por la opera televisada Coronation Street. Ella ya tenía 90 años cuando finalmente comenzó a sentirse enferma y falleció en el año 2016 debido a causas naturales. Ya que no tenía familia, algunos aun la tienen esperanza de que ella tenga una última voluntad o testamento ocultos. Pocos saben que su nombre real es Jean Mavis Hodgkinson, pero eliminó sus apellidos y agregó el Alexander por sentido artístico.
