Sinds Brooke Shields als kind haar eerste stappen in de acteerwereld zette met optredens in reclames en haar tijd als kindmodel, werd ze gedreven door de ambitie om internationaal door te breken. Haar rol in “The Blue Lagoon”, hoewel omstreden, zette haar op de internationale kaart en maakte haar tot de jongste vrouw die ooit op de cover van Vogue verscheen. Gedurende de jaren negentig breidde Shields haar acteercarrière verder uit als hoofdrolspeelster in de sitcom “Suddenly Susan”, waarmee ze haar veelzijdigheid als actrice bewees. Nu ze de leeftijd van zestig nadert, verschijnt ze wellicht minder in grote producties, maar ze vindt nog steeds plezier in het sporadisch aannemen van rollen, waarbij ze ook geniet van de unieke waarde van kleinere projecten.
