Gedurende de jaren negentig breidde Shields haar acteercarrière verder uit als hoofdrolspeelster in de sitcom “Suddenly Susan”, waarmee ze haar veelzijdigheid als actrice bewees. Nu ze de leeftijd van zestig nadert, verschijnt ze wellicht minder in grote producties, maar ze vindt nog steeds plezier in het sporadisch aannemen van rollen, waarbij ze ook geniet van de unieke waarde van kleinere projecten.
